Weather Stations Grill MaxiMet

MaxiMet meteorological stations manufactured by Gill have a compact design. These systems are widely in demand both in commercial, scientific and even government institutions. Different models are suitable for use on land or at sea. All of them can be used as stand-alone devices or be integrated into larger systems.

The strength and accuracy of the products, as well as the ease of their maintenance and operation – these are the three components of the popularity of MaxiMet weather stations from Gill. And low operating costs are a nice addition to these main advantages!

Gill MaxiMet compact meteorological complexes are in demand for solving the tasks of smart cities and smart agriculture, as well as wherever mobile meteorological measuring systems are required. Their typical applications include weather monitoring, pollution monitoring, installation on autonomous controlled and manned sea vessels, gardening, construction control and local surveillance from land vehicles.

MetConnect weather stations

Gill's MetConnect weather stations are easily expandable with the integration of additional sensors that the user can select and add to the system to suit their individual workload. These types of solutions are attractive to many large organizations (such as global multinational corporations or national atmospheric institutions and meteorological services, for example).

Typical areas of application for Gill MetConnect weather complexes include the following:

  • weather observation;
  • environmental monitoring;
  • agriculture and horticulture;
  • solar energy control and monitoring systems;
  • coastal and ocean buoys;
  • ports and harbours.

The key features of Gill's MetConnect series are:

  1. Ultrasonic technology provides highly accurate measurements without the need to replace or recalibrate moving parts.
  2. High-quality built-in internal and optional external sensors are easily combined into the optimal system for the user. In addition to the convenience of synchronizing data from several sensors at once, this approach has a beneficial effect on aspects of power supply and communication.
  3. The instrument is configured for single line output to facilitate data collection.
  4. Input connectors for additional sensors are of high quality and reliable.
  5. Rugged stainless steel design is IP66/67 rated, perfect for harsh environments.
  6. MetConnect series meteorological complexes are characterized by ease of installation and connection, as well as minimal maintenance requirements.
  7. The devices are designed in the UK and manufactured directly by the developer.

Gill's MetConnect line of weather stations includes two instruments: MetConnect One and MetConnect THP. The first has four built-in sensors (wind, temperature, humidity and pressure) and three M12 connectors for connecting external meters. The second one is recommended to be used if the user does not need to monitor wind indicators.

2-axis and 3-axis Gill wind sensors

To begin with, all anemometers developed by Gill Instruments are ultrasonic devices. They have no moving parts, and therefore only minimally require calibration, replacement of parts and maintenance.

In total, the described manufacturer of meteorological equipment has five lines of wind sensors: three two-axis and two three-axis:

  • WindSonic – cost effective, high performance 2-axis ultrasonic anemometers;
  • WindUltra – compact, lightweight, high performance 2-axis ultrasonic anemometers;
  • WindObserver – precision 2-axis ultrasonic anemometers for demanding applications;
  • WindMaster – high precision, multi-purpose 3-axis anemometers;
  • Research – research grade, 3-axis anemometers for scientific applications.

WindSonic and WindUltra wind sensors from Gill are most in demand in the following areas:

  • observation of wind speed and direction;
  • monitoring of the pollution plume;
  • measurement of air flow in clean rooms;
  • monitoring of flow movements in tunnel and industrial ventilation;
  • use as part of the Internet of Things;
  • special solutions for smart cities;
  • integration into large weather tracking systems.

The first of these lines includes three partings: WindSonic 60, WindSonic 75 and WindSonic Metal. In the standard version they are designed to monitor wind speeds up to 60 m/s (216 km/h), but the 75th model can work in extreme conditions - at speeds up to 75 m/s (270 km/h).

The second of the mentioned Gill product lines contains only one model - WindUltra itself, which differs in its mounting and alignment options.

In addition to standard analysis of wind speed and direction, Gill WindObserver anemometers are used in more specific areas:

  • marine use (only models approved by Lloyd's Register or other similar communities);
  • airport weather structures (FAA and CAA approved models only);
  • dynamic positioning systems;
  • to control turbines;
  • in conditions of low temperatures;
  • in places where intrinsic safety is required (including offshore drilling rigs).

The WindObserver series of instruments is suitable for demanding applications with its open head design for improved measurement accuracy. It includes models WindObserver 65, WindObserver 70, WindObserver 75, WindObserver 90, WindObserver II and WindObserver IS. They produce high quality wind measurements at speeds up to 65, 70, 75 and 90 m/s respectively.

Gill three-axis anemometers are designed to meet the needs of research organizations and industrial customers.

WindMaster high-precision ultrasonic sensors are in demand for the following needs:

  • collection of scientific or military data;
  • inspection of wind power facilities;
  • control of information about unmanned sea vessels;
  • measurement of air turbulence around bridges, buildings and other similar objects;
  • building ventilation control systems (including clean rooms);
  • integration into high-precision scientific OEM products;
  • weather observation and flow measurement points.

Gill's specialized Research anemometers are capable of collecting data for the following purposes:

  • high-precision (high-speed) data transmission when monitoring wind speed and direction;
  • precise meteorological studies;
  • long-term environmental monitoring;
  • commercial and scientific research requiring high data transfer rates;
  • vortex covariance analysis of flows, study of turbulent air flows;
  • assessment of wind turbine sites and their management.

In the WindMaster series there are both models with a horizontal head (for vertical flow analysis) and with a rectangular head (for special installation options). In total, this product line of Gill Instruments includes four products: the original WindMaster, WindMaster Pro, WindMaster RA (right-angled head) and WindMaster HS (horizontal head & stainless-steel construction).

Gill Research wind sensors have horizontal heads – symmetrical and asymmetric to solve various tasks. This series of meters is designed for high-precision monitoring of vertical air flow with minimal violation of the geometry of the anemometer. All devices of the line have a built-in inclinometer, which facilitates their installation on towers and meteorological masts. The series includes four devices: R3-50 and R3-100, HS-50 and HS-100.

Gill anemometers can be equipped with heating. Be sure to specify this standard feature or option when ordering!

As you can see, Gill has a lot of wind sensors in its assortment. Of course, we will not be able to describe all these devices in detail in one review material.
