Classification of PASI devices by application areas
Originated in the 40s of the XX century in India, PASI initially specialized exclusively in geophysical research. In the 50s, she moved to Italy, and in the XXI century she entered the world market, starting cooperation with the Swiss company Proceq, which is one of the world leaders in the field of non-destructive testing of building materials. Currently, accurate and reliable PASI instruments are well known and widely in demand in many countries.
The main lines of scientific and technical developments of PASI include the following areas:
- Seismic: solving problems of underground control. This includes devices for seismic exploration that track the propagation of seismic waves in the earth in order to obtain its geotechnical parameters in a non-destructive way.
- Geophysical: high-tech tools for geological and hydrogeological research. PASI instruments for geoelectric exploration measure the electrical resistivity of the soil in order to study fresh water or detect substances polluting aquifers.
- Water surveys: proper monitoring of the state of aquifers. As part of this direction, PASI produces a complete set of tools for measuring the level, electrical conductivity and temperature of water, the water/ oil interface.
- NDT (Nondestructive testing): to track construction and environmental indicators. Non-destructive testing of reinforced concrete and stone structures is the main method of checking the actual condition of existing and under construction buildings. Also, devices of this type are suitable for use with certain natural objects.
The directions of innovation development determine the range of products. The PASI product catalog is also organized accordingly. It includes instruments of the following specializations:
- geoelectric;
- for well exploration;
- for non-destructive testing;
- seismic.

PASI tools for well survey
PASI equipment for well research covers not one, but three areas of operation at once (hydrological, hydrogeological and hydrochemical), since all devices of this type can be divided into the following types:
- level gauges;
- borehole chambers;
- water quality control probes.
Let's consider all these types of products in order.
The level meters include a number of models under the general name "WATER LEVEL INDICATORS", as well as OIL WATER INTERFACE METER.
WATER LEVEL INDICATORS are available in the BFK, BFK-FF, BFM, BFM-FF, WMS-02 and WMS-LTC models. All of them, as their common name implies, measure the water level in wells and reservoirs, however, some products have additional functions.
- BFK-FF determines the distance to the bottom of the well.
- BFM-FF reveals the depth of the well.
- WMS-02 monitors water temperature.
- WMS-LTC measures temperature and electrical conductivity parameters.
PASI level transmitters models BFK and BFK-FF are equipped with a round cable from 30 to 500 m long with centimeter markings. The BFM and BFM-FF indicators have a flat cable with graduations in millimeters and a length range of 30-300 meters. The WMS-02 and WMS-LTC instruments, in addition to the round centimeter cable, are equipped with a display showing temperature or temperature and conductivity measurements. The cable length for WMS-02 is from 30 to 500 meters, and for WMS-LTC - from the same 30 to 300 meters.
Most PASI level meters are equipped with visual and audio notification of the measurement goal achievement.
PASI borehole chambers in the manufacturer 's catalog are represented by two models:
- Borehole camera WELLCAMERA1N. The complete device consists of a cable reel and camera head, and a data control box with built-in LCD display, USB 2.0 capture card and microphone, which are needed to view, save and annotate photos or videos on a customer's laptop. Available cable lengths: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 m.
- Borehole camera for well inspection WELLCAMERA2 with encoder. An improved model that adds one new extra to WELLCAMERA1N functions. The advanced camera's electronic encoder allows you to display and record depth video. The possible cable lengths are the same as for the previous model.
PASI hydrochemical (that is, water quality control) instruments include the following devices:
- The Multiline IDS series, which includes durable, reliable multiparameter portable instrumentation, perfectly suitable for use in the field. Products of this product line can have several simultaneous measuring channels, self-calibration capabilities, sensor diagnostics and data storage. They are delivered in strong practical cases. These instruments are designed to measure conductivity, salinity, TDS, pH, ORP, dissolved oxygen and turbidity.
Portable photometer PHOTO FLEX, designed for photometric studies in the field. Ideal companions for all measurements directly at the research sites. Thanks to practical test kits, they allow quick measurements of many water quality parameters. The possibilities of their application range from the control of sewage treatment plants to the analysis of drinking water in wells and reservoirs, as well as monitoring the state of surface waters.- Portable turbidimeter TURB 430 IR. Designed to measure turbidity in the field. The principle of operation of the device is based on the nephelometric method of measuring turbidity up to 1100 NTU.
- MP47 multiparameter sensor designed for monitoring water parameters in wells, lakes and rivers, as well as checking discharge downstream. Measures the following parameters: electrical conductivity, pressure, temperature, turbidity, pH, ORP, optical DO. Individual combinations of parameters are available. The cable can be from 10 to 150 m long . Maximum measurement parameters: 4. The outer diameter of the probe: 47 mm.
- The MQ65 multiparameter sensor, which is an excellent solution for long-term monitoring of the most important water quality parameters on site. The measured values and cable lengths of this device are the same as those of the MP47. The differences between them are in the maximum measurement parameters (here – 6) and the outer diameter of the probe (here – 65 mm).
In addition, the tools for well inspection can also include the BIT well tilt tester, which will be described in more detail in the paragraph of the article devoted to non-destructive testing.
